Savouring Cornwall: Celebrating Local Flavours at The Basset Arms
At The Basset Arms, food isn’t just something we serve - it’s a story. Every dish we create celebrates the extraordinary local produce and passionate suppliers that make Cornwall so special. From the rugged coastline to the lush countryside, Cornwall is bursting with ingredients that are full of flavour, and we’re proud to bring them straight to your plate.
A Love Letter to Local Producers
We pride ourselves on building close relationships with Cornwall’s finest producers. Our seafood is supplied by the respected local supplier Celtic Fish and Game, bringing in the freshest fish from Newlyn and St Ives. Every dish is full of flavour and responsibly sourced. Our meats come from RJ Trevarthen, a local Cornish farm where animal welfare and traditional rearing methods are a priority, ensuring every bite showcases the very best of Cornwall.
Choosing local Cornish produce isn’t only about exceptional flavour - it also helps reduce food miles and supports more sustainable farming and fishing practices. If you’re searching for fresh, seasonal pub food, The Basset Arms, known as one of the best pubs in Portreath, delivers an authentic Cornish gastropub experience rooted in quality local ingredients.
We offer a range of menus and dishes to suit every appetite. Start with plates like creamy garlic mushrooms served with focaccia bread or chilli king prawns with butter emulsion and flatbread. For mains, choose from hearty favourites such as pork belly porchetta with nduja, Provençal vegetables and basil oil, or roasted prime white fish with garlic potato gnocchi stew and rosemary-drizzled vegetables. There’s also a nod to Cornish heritage with our iconic Stargazy Pie, a true taste of local folklore.
If you’re after something lighter, enjoy warm roasted vegetable sandwiches with herb pesto, and for a sweet finish, a traditional Cornish cream tea rounds off the meal perfectly.
Our homemade Sunday roasts are a firm favourite with guests. Using the finest, freshest, and wherever possible locally sourced ingredients, diners can savour traditional soups, succulent Cornish beef roasts, and comforting, flavour-packed puddings that bring a taste of nostalgia to the table.
We always offer a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes, and we’re happy to cater for coeliacs or guests with other dietary requirements - just let us know when you book your table, and we’ll take care of the rest.
In The Basset Bar, you can enjoy a carefully curated selection of drinks, from Cornish favourites like Tribute, Korev, and Healey’s Cornish Cider, to an extensive range of international wines and local spirits, perfect for pairing with your meal or enjoying on their own.
